Types of SEND Provided For
At Christ Church CEP Academy, we support pupils across the four areas of need identified in the SEND Code of Practice:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
Identification and Assessment of SEND
We identify pupils with SEND through:
- Ongoing teacher assessment and monitoring
- Pupil progress meetings
- Concerns raised by parents/carers
- External professional assessments
We follow a graduated approach of Assess – Plan – Do – Review to ensure needs are identified early and accurately.
Arrangements for Making Provision for Pupils with SEND
We ensure provision for pupils with SEND by:
a) Evaluating Effectiveness
- Regular review of individual support plans
- Monitoring progress data
- SENCo oversight and reporting to senior leaders/governors
b) Assessing and Reviewing Progress
- Termly review meetings with parents
- Individual targets and provision mapping
- Pupil voice included in reviews
c) Approach to Teaching
- High-quality, inclusive teaching (Quality First Teaching)
- Differentiated learning opportunities
- Small group or 1:1 interventions where appropriate
d) Adapting the Curriculum and Environment
- Scaffolded learning and adapted resources
- Use of assistive technology where appropriate
- Adjustments to the physical environment
e) Additional Support for Learning
- Targeted interventions

f) Enabling Inclusion in School Activities
- Full inclusion in trips, clubs and wider school life

Expertise and Training of Staff
- Staff receive regular SEND training and professional development
- The SENCo holds (or is working towards) the National Award for SEN Coordination
- Specialist advice is accessed from external professionals where needed
Securing Specialist Expertise and Equipment
We work with:
- Educational psychologists
- Speech and language therapists
- Occupational therapists
- Specialist teaching services
Equipment and resources are secured through school funding or external support services.
Consulting and Involving Parents
We work in partnership with parents through:
- Regular review meetings
- Open communication with teachers and SENCo
- Shared target setting and support planning
Consulting and Involving Pupils
Pupils with SEND are supported to:
- Share their views
- Contribute to target setting
- Reflect on their progress
Complaints About SEND Provision
If you have concerns about SEND provision:
- Speak to your child’s class teacher
- Contact the SENCo
- Follow the school’s formal complaints procedure
Supporting Pupils at Key Transition Points
We support transitions by:
- Liaising with previous/next settings
- Additional visits and transition planning
- Sharing detailed information with receiving schools
The Local Offer
Our SEND Information Report forms part of the Kent Local Offer, which provides information about services available for children and young people with SEND.
Arrangements for Supporting Pupils with Medical Conditions
We follow statutory guidance to ensure pupils with medical needs are fully supported through:
- Individual healthcare plans
- Staff training
- Close liaison with families and health professionals
Accessibility Arrangements
In line with the Equality Act 2010, we:
- Promote equal access to the curriculum
- Improve the physical environment where possible
- Provide accessible information for all pupils
Admission Arrangements for Pupils with SEND
Pupils with SEND are admitted in line with the school’s admissions policy. We are committed to inclusion and equality of opportunity for all.
How Resources Are Allocated
Resources are allocated based on:
- Individual pupil needs
- Advice from professionals
- School SEND budget and, where applicable, additional funding (e.g. EHCPs)
How Decisions Are Made About Support
Support decisions are made through:
- Teacher assessment
- SENCo consultation
- Discussion with parents and pupils
- External professional advice where required
